This resort was everything we hoped it would. A perfect balance of tropical but not jungle like, modern but not over the top where you don't feel like you're in Mexico. The staff were all wonderful to work with from the time we checked in until checkout. Was it perfect? No! They just reopened after a huge remodel of the resort. The usual opening hiccups but nothing that time won't correct. The brand new Preferred Club building with lounge and bar, a beautiful upstairs restaurant serving breakfast and the most amazing 7 course dinner with amazing view of the ocean, and a new pool area complete with Bali beds, really is a major perk. The restaurants are on rotation currently assuming due to occupancy being lower as they are still renovating some of the areas. Food was good to excellent and again think it will improve more as new staff adjusts. I wish they had a brick oven pizza outdoors like Secrets Maroma. They had the best pizza there! The theater and sports bar areas is a great set up and the shows were great. The silent disco is always fun but they need to have a better variety of music like 80's on one channel, Rock on another and then today's top hits maybe to make it fun for everyone and 3 channels like other resorts do but again I think still learning. Beautiful grounds and walkways. The golf cart wait varied at different times but again I think will improve. Overall, I think SPM is living up to the Secrets standards and will only get better every day and we will be back :)

We stayed here as a family of four and couldn’t be happier with our experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. The team greeting us at the entrance was warm and professional, and check-in and check-out were smooth and stress-free thanks to Rafael, who went out of his way to make everything easy for us. The service throughout the resort was outstanding. All the restaurant staff were attentive, friendly, and consistently kind, making every meal enjoyable. A special thank you to Diego and Memo from the entertainment team they were incredibly friendly, energetic, and made the atmosphere even more fun. Poolside service was excellent, rooms were comfortable, and the overall organization and hospitality exceeded our expectations. We were truly satisfied in every aspect of our stay. We are already planning to come back next year. Highly recommended for families looking for a relaxing and high-quality vacation.

Title: Ruined Anniversary: Broken Amenities, Construction & Zero Service I booked Secrets Playa Mujeres for an anniversary trip, expecting luxury. Instead, I got a 4-day construction zone with non-functional amenities. We paid for a swim-out room but couldn't use it once. Management admitted the heating system was broken due to a recent reopening. It never worked. Even the public hot tubs were brick-cold; watching staff stick thermometers into freezing water while we sat there was a joke. Our room experience was just as bad. The air-conditioning didn't work, making the room uncomfortable, and the showerhead was broken. After complaining, we were moved only to be woken by loud construction—drilling and banging on concrete right by the Preferred lounge. Despite reporting these issues, no one did anything to fix them. Worst of all, our anniversary was completely ignored. I saw other doors decorated with “Just Married” or “Happy Birthday” ribbons, but we received zero recognition. It felt incredibly alienating to be overlooked while others were celebrated. The “All-Inclusive” dining is a myth. They open restaurants based on volume to save money. I could only access 3 out of 9 options because the rest were closed. To top it off, the staff felt biased and unwelcoming. This resort is cutting corners at the guest's expense. Avoid this place if you actually want the experience you paid for. Total waste of money.

Food was amazing. Restaurants and rooms were nice. Staff was very lackidazical, never in a hurry or rush. We actually left restaurants because we weren't getting served. Beach was beautiful and pools were nice. With that being said they need new beds and pillows. Beds were OK at best. Clean but not a good mattress. And the pillows. Worst pillows every made. Seriously for what your charge to stay those pillows are an embarassment. Bring your own. Even the ones I ordered from housekeeping were a joke. Hope this helps. Just take your own pillow

We stayed 7 nights in mid-January – one week after re-opening from the remodel – in a Preferred Club Oceanfront Master Suite with Private Pool (approx. $1,400/night). And our experience was far from the premium price or 5-star expectation. Issues started from the moment we checked-in: • Our room had a pungent mildew/sewer smell. The preferred club’s resolution was to give us a dehumidifier and use my homemade bug spray as air freshener. • The private pool (the reason we chose this resort), was cold and visibly dirty with construction debris for most of the stay – despite multiple requests to have it cleaned. It wasn’t until the day before we checked-out that it was cleaned AND we realized it was supposed to be heated. • There was a private event staged, literally, on top of our room, with concert-level sound checks starting at 3pm and amplified music through 11pm, followed by teardown noise. There was little empathy from the resort staff when we complained. • Ongoing construction activities in adjacent rooms and walkways – drilling, painting, ladders, trash everywhere. Sadly, all of the plants around the buildings were covered in a layer or paint or construction debris. • Food was mediocre, at best – including uncooked shrimp at dinner. • And, as if to sum up our stay, the morning we checked out we woke to a cockroach in the shower. We raised concerns with resort management, and were essentially dismissed. They did offer to move us with less than 24 hours left in the stay, which at that point was useless. We attempted to resolve these issues directly with Secrets management, Hyatt, Expedia, and Capital One Travel, which proved to be a waste of time. For the past 15 years, we have stayed at other 5-star resorts in Playa Mujeres, and have never experienced this level of operational breakdown and disregard for guest experience.
