El Dorado Royale remains a great resort even 11 years after my first visit. Some of the rooms are starting to show their age but we had friends staying in an updated room that was very nice. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. My recent visit was about 3 weeks after Lomas took ownership of the property so they were still working out some kinks with excursions but they were very accommodating. My only complaint is about the beach and water access. Erosion has hit Royale hard and the beach is nothing but rocks and isn't really fit for enjoying the water. Luckily Casitas and Generations are part of the same property and at least the Generations beach is accessible to Royale guests and is much nicer. Plus, an included excursion to El Dorado Moroma Beach is included in the More Inclusive benefits, so you get a day on a perfect beach as part of your stay.

Honest review. We recently stayed at this resort, and while there were some positives, several issues made the experience disappointing overall. Pros: The food was good, and the restaurants had availability. The pools were nice, clean, and enjoyable, and most of the staff — especially those at the front desk — were friendly and accommodating. Cons: The restaurants were extremely cold, making it difficult to enjoy meals. Staff said they couldn’t adjust the temperature, which made dining unpleasant. If you're staying at this resort bring long sleeved clothes/vests for dinner. We did not see any entertainment at the pools — no activities, pool parties, or entertainment crew, which was a bit unusual. Seating was also limited, and we often had to go to Casitas to find available chairs/space to sit around the pool. The resort is quite large, and the transport carts were unreliable; they’re supposed to pass every 20 minutes, yet often took much longer and were usually full. The beach was very rocky, making it almost impossible to swim. The water at Casitas was slightly better but still not great for swimming. We stayed at the adults-only section (El Dorado Royale) but saw kids at the buffet from time to time. The rooms were very cold even with the AC off, and the thin linen and damp air made sleeping uncomfortable. The club only had live bands — no real shows or variety during our stay. A few times we waited for shows (ie: the burlesque show) which were on the activity schedule to occur and did not. The villas were also quite dirty, with animal feces and broken plates around entrances due to wildlife and guests leaving dishes outside. Housekeeping did not clean these areas in a timely manner, sometimes taking hours/days to do so. Guests should also be told to keep dishes inside their rooms or have a designated drop-off area assigned for these things. Lomas Travel: Lomas Travel was the most disorganized company we’ve dealt with at a resort. The staff were unfriendly and seemed uninterested in helping unless you were making a purchase. The check-in for the catamaran excursion was chaotic because it serves as the main location for many different excursions. The staff on the catamaran even suggested that every guest tip $10 USD, which was uncomfortable to say the least although the excursion itself was pleasant. At the airport, Lomas Travel didn’t have our names or destination information. We had to write our names on paper and tell them where we were going — completely unprofessional and unsafe. Ive also never experienced this in my life. Final Thoughts: Unless your goal is simply to eat and relax by the pool or beach, save your money and go elsewhere. The resort needs major improvements in organization, cleanliness, and overall guest experience.

The hotel was beautiful and the workers were so friendly and professional. Our room was spotless when we arrived with everything we could need, including a scale to weigh our luggage when we were leaving for the airport. The wall between the bedroom & bathroom area was a see-through piece of glass, so we hung a blanket over it for some privacy since we were sharing a room with my father. Also, during the week we had trouble getting our coffee supplies replenished and washcloths replaced. Be sure to reserve your restaurants for dinner on your first day. We came in late and tried to schedule the next day, but everything was full for the entire weekend unless we wanted to eat at 9 pm. We ended up eating all of our meals at the Chef Market buffet, Cocotal, the Palms, or having pizza by the pool. Cocotal is a larger space for a buffet, but they only serve breakfast. It would be nice if they would open up for dinner too. The Chef Market was okay, but it seemed to be lacking in options. Breakfast was better at Chef Market if you are looking for American foods like waffles. The bacon was very greasy, but the fresh fruit, oatmeal and yogurt were quite good. As you are walking through the property, you will need to follow the map, as most of the buildings are not labeled and there are very few signs. There are tons of golf carts for convenient transport between areas of the resort, and the drivers are very helpful. We had a swim up pool connected to our room which was beautiful, but we never swam. There are a number of free excursions you could do included in your stay, but we did not get a chance to do any of them because we were there for a wedding and quite busy. My favorite relaxing activity was laying on the beach under the shade listening to the ocean. There are also many pools to choose from, with the loudest party pool near La Isla restaurant, if you are looking for that. They did a great job producing the wedding ceremony & reception. It was unbelievably beautiful & so much fun! Ours was a big wedding of over 100 people, and it was over the top with water drums and fire dancers, both of which were spectacular! It was a great experience, and we highly recommend them for a wedding destination!

We had an amazing time at the resort this year which is our 3X stay with you. We got married at the resort 3 years ago. This year we invited my brother & his wife to join for a few days & they really loved the property as well. A couple of our favorite people on the property are Victor (breakfast & pizzeria) also Jesus (Fuentes) plus the day bartender in the main bar Martini’s. We hope to be back next year if we can find a great deal. Amazing food still have not been to all 16 restaurants! Finally went to Fuentes interactive dining experience & wine pairing! The property is very well maintained with worker that generally care about what they do. Cheers 🥂 till then.

Don't know what happened but after years of glowing reviews and positive comments about service and food I have noticed a steady decline on the favourable comments from all review sites. Despite this my wife and I plus my daughter and her husband decided to try your resort. I love the fact that it is a mature resort and very lush but from the start signage is none existent. They dont't provide you with a particularly detailed resort map. Hours of operation for the various venues are not posted. Drinks are inconsistent ..even from the same bartender. We did have a number of resort employees who were marvelous and seemed sincere. We did have concierge service but once it was determined that we were not likely time share candidates this seemed to be an inconvenience. Food quality was absolutely hit and miss. When the best meal you have is from the hamburger and rib bar on the beach (and it was really, really good) you know you are going to have a problem. Resort is defiantly not designed for anyone who may have mobility challenges. It is absolutely insane that they have a wheelchair ramp at the resort entrance which is one or two stories above the resort grounds but you need to use steps to get down to the resort. My son in law quickly established contacts with the resort drivers was was a blessing as he made sure my wife and I seldom had to walk long distances to the various restaurants scattered around the resort. The one perk my wife and I have had is the ability to travel to many resorts over our 52 years of marriage. Sad to say that at one time (maybe 20 years ago) this would have been the benchmark resort. Sadly many resorts in many other countries are able to deliver far better experiences at lesser prices. Too bad.
