Disney's Contemporary Resort

Our family shared two connecting rooms that were spacious and quiet at night. One room had a large shower and the other had a tub/shower combination. Each had a private toilet area. The beds were comfortable and pillows nice. The rooms only have a "beverage cooler" not a refrigerator. So we took the ice bucket liner and filled it with ice and put it in the cooler to keep our milk cold. We also removed one shelf in order to stand the milk upright. Ziplock bags with ice helped too. The view of the lake from the balcony was fabulous. We walked .65 miles on a path to the Magic Kingdom which was so convenient, and rode the Monorail back to the hotel. The Contempo Cafe served huge portions of food. You could share one meal and save $$. The service was slow though. We loved the Chef Mickey breakfast. The buffet had everything you could possibly want. Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pluto each came to our table and posed for photos. Over the years we have stayed at The Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, The Beach Club, Shades of Green and The Contemporary. They have all been wonderful!

Staying at the contemporary was an amazing experience. The resort and rooms were incredible. We stayed in the main tower with a theme park view. Steakhouse 71 breakfast was great. We utilized the gym and walking paths as well. This was our best stay at Walt Disney World!

Our room was amazing. Some small details could make it a 5. Better refrigerator. Small is fine but I didn’t realize it was open a crack and my medically complex child’s food didn’t stay cold enough to last. We had to scramble to find him food. Not entirely hotels fault but a larger mini fridge would have helped alleviate this besides the user error. Next I wish there was drainage on the balconies. The view couldn’t be beat but the afternoon rains made the balcony wet and it would be nice if that drained instead of just setting there.

I stayed at the Contemporary with my family a month after it opened in 1971. Granted it was brand new and nothing like anyone had ever seen, so I was excited to go back and to have my husband experience the hotel. My husband and I were celebrating our 40th anniversary. We stayed at the Disney Inn (now Shades of Gray) on our honeymoon. This anniversary was meant to make memories. When I booked the hotel I booked for a king size bed. When we arrived we had two double beds. It was corrected but it was the first of a few setbacks. We stayed Sunday night through Wednesday night. The Steakhouse restaurant was amazing! Chef Mickey’s was amazing! We spent part of our day Tuesday playing golf on a Disney course. We were gone approximately four hours and came back to the room not being cleaned. We went to Epcot after and came back to the room still not being cleaned. We had to call down for fresh towels and toilet paper. I don’t understand this. They tried to insinuate we had been in the room when we were gone most of the day. Also, we stayed on the 10th floor and looking down on the Chef Mickey area there is a huge stain on the ceiling of that area. Being that we are 40 years older now during this stay, my asthma was a problem. My inhaler wasn’t working in the heat and humidity. I needed a scooter in order to enjoy the parks because walking and gasping for breath was not fun. We wish the Contemporary offered scooters at the hotel as they run out in the parks very quickly. My husband called the scooter company in Orlando and they delivered one to the hotel, which worked but we feel the hotel should have them considering the room rates. We had a beautiful view of the pool and the lake. The food was amazing but it’s the other things that took away from our visit. Thank you for the chance to explain our experience. What can I say about this place that is actually decent. The location and the transportation is unmatched. But service, the hotel itself and other aspects of this place make it lackluster. My issues with Contemporary started in 2024 when my daughter busted her head on a table in Steakhouse 71. It was an accident but an ambulance had to be called because she needed stitches. They treated this like a cover up and acted like I was ruining the vibe of the restaurant and the resort. When everything was said and done, they never reached out to make sure she was ok or anything. Didn’t even offer giving our reservation we were there for back to us. They told us as we were leaving in the ambulance that they cancelled the reservation for us and didn’t charge us the cancellation since what had happened. They made it seem like it was a favor to us. Just swept it under the rug. Wasn’t trying to get anything from it but a simple is she ok or here is your reservation would have been nice. Very sad at how they treated the whole situation. Kind of had a bad taste in my mouth after that. But Fast forward to just a few weeks ago when I finally bit the bullet to stay here. The room was lackluster at best. It had scuff marks on the walls and half the outlets didn’t work. Paid for a water view room that had a lovely view…of a bush. You actually had to step off of the patio onto the sidewalk and turn a completely different direction to even see the water. Everything was just very underwhelming. Quick service took a very long time even with mobile ordering and cast members didn’t seem to be too friendly and not helpful. The most friendly person I met was one of the bell Hops. Just very disappointing to pay all that money for a deluxe resort to receive service and amenities like a value resort. After this stay, I will not be staying again.
