A Truly Wonderful and Comforting Stay! We were absolutely thrilled with our stay at this wonderful hotel! From the first moment to the last, we felt completely comfortable and welcome. The entire hotel team was always present and took care of all our needs with attentiveness and genuine care. You can feel that every employee is dedicated and passionate about their work. We would like to give a special shout-out to the pair of staff members at the Pool bar. They did an outstanding job! Their service was not just professional, but also incredibly warm and personal. Espacilly Jony, Diego, Miiguel, Alejandro. They made our days by the pool/beach a true highlight every single time. Huge praise to these four.. The rooms were impeccably clean, the food was superb, and the atmosphere throughout the entire hotel was very relaxed and stylish. Highly recommended! We will definitely be back!

Honest Review - Visited recently ( November 2025 ) Beach & Property The beach was nice to visit but not really ideal for swimming. The property itself looks okay, but there were quite a lot of mosquitoes probably due to stagnant water in some areas. Shows were not great at all , it was very boring. No proper dance floor or music. The only thing I enjoyed was Aqua aerobics at 12pm in the pool and games before that. Rooms & Service - Rooms were decent and room service was good. However, the overall management seemed understaffed, and you could definitely feel that in the overall experience specially restaurants and overall maintenance. Food & Drinks The buffet wasn’t great and had limited options. Dinner choices were also quite restricted. Mexican restaurant - Food wasn’t that great, dessert was okay. Lot of mosquitoes. Teppanyaki - Not good , not worth the wait. French restaurant - The food was good, but it’s first come, first serve with limited spots so you need to go early. Coffee shop - Really nice spot! I ended up spending most of my time here. Sports bar - Food was surprisingly good, especially the wings and chicken panini. There was no proper welcome drink , just something in a glass container that tasted bad. Juices at the buffet weren’t great either, except for the orange juice used in mimosas. Desserts overall were disappointing. Photo Package - We took the photo shoot package, but it was not worth it. The pictures were average, and the photographer seemed impatient and had a bit of an attitude ,not very accommodating. Overall - It’s an okay place if you just want to relax and don’t expect too much from the food or management. Small resort so beach is steps away.

We stayed here for 6 nights and 7 days in April. Room: The room we stayed in was clean and spacious, with a peaceful terrace and a beautifully landscaped garden — a perfect spot to sit with a can of beer and relax. The housekeeping service was excellent, and the minibar restocking service was great too (we left a tip every day). Restaurants: The Mexican restaurant El Charro was the best — always delicious, and the servers were friendly and attentive. I’ve traveled to both France and Italy more than twice, and compared to those standards, Blue Moon was still one of the better options here, with top-notch servers. However, don’t set your expectations too high — you might end up disappointed. The Italian restaurant La Dolce Vita was quite underwhelming in both food and service. The restaurant itself has a nice seaside atmosphere, but it’s right next to a party hotel, so you can constantly hear people shouting and loud, tacky music. It really ruins the mood. The buffet restaurant La Hacienda was where we had breakfast every day — the food was tasty. Service was hit or miss. During our stay, my husband and I were almost the only East Asian guests, except for two young women and another couple. Overall, younger servers were friendly, but some of the older ones felt less welcoming. I couldn’t help wondering — is it because of a stereotype that Asians don’t tip well? Or do older Mexicans tend to be more attentive to white guests? Also, the coffee service and quality at Mike’s Coffee were great. Beach: We heard there was a lot of seaweed this year, and although it wasn’t spotless, the water was still good enough for swimming. The smell wasn’t too bad either. The real challenge, though, was getting a sunbed — you have to reserve one around 6–7 a.m. if you want to enjoy cocktails, reading, and swimming throughout the day. If you go closer to the Privilege section, the staff there also take drink orders from the general area and bring them over — just make sure to have plenty of tips ready. Overall: The resort isn’t too big, and since it’s located away from the busy center of Playa del Carmen, it feels calm and peaceful — perfect for couples like us who were looking for relaxation rather than a party atmosphere. The only downside was that some of the older restaurant servers seemed to treat Asian guests differently. They gave excellent service right away to white guests who looked like generous tippers, while we were somewhat invisible at first. But interestingly, once we started tipping more generously, the service completely changed — everyone became much friendlier on our second visit. If you want to have a stress-free, enjoyable stay, I recommend bringing plenty of cash for tips. Everyone — from the doormen and room attendants to restaurant servers, bartenders, and minibar staff — becomes much more attentive when you tip regularly. I gave between $1 USD (20 pesos) and $5 USD (100 pesos) each time, and by the end of the stay, everything ran smoothly and pleasantly.

We just had a fantastic 6 day stay, I would highly recommend Ocean Maya Royale! Our room was spacious and clean. Everyone there was super friendly and worked hard to ensure our stay was a great experience. The food was wonderful, especially the Italian and Japanese restaurants where wonderful Ristorero the sommelier helped us with wine selections at both places. The pool scene was also fabulous with one pool more of a party scene and the other a peaceful atmosphere where the wonderful Adrian kept us supplied with drinks all day. The dancers at the nightly shows were also excellent and there was live music every night. There was no reason to leave although we did get out to see the fantastic Ek Balaam, swim in Cenote X’Canche and of course visit Chichen Itza which is quite an incredible experience. Thanks so much to the awesome staff for such a wonderful get away!!

We got home from our 4th visit to Ocean Maya last Saturday and had the absolute best week! The grounds are beautiful and well kept, the rooms are perfect for sleeping and the staff is out of this world! All of the entertainment staff were great, but Kenddell and Susana made every day so much fun! Miguel, Eber, and Jonny at the swim up bar made the perfect drinks! El Charro was our favorite lunch spot. The broccoli, shrimp, Alfredo at La Dolce Vita was delicious. The hibachi was so good we went twice. Blue moon was so good we went twice. The sports bar was great for appetizers when we had a late dinner. We did the Mayan Dinner Thursday night and learning the history was very interesting and the food was incredible. Mike's coffee was a great stop all throughout the day. Forever recommending this place to anyone wanting to get away affordably. We will definitely be back!
