We are on our 10th day of a 10 day trip and our last meal is in the brasserie French restaurant. We’ve eaten here four times as it is our favorite. We want to give a shout out to our servers Carlos Yah and Reyi Campos who are so friendly and attentive, as well as the hostess Diana Merinero at the front door, who is always so welcoming. You must try the pistachio ravioli and the Lobster cappuccino soup at the Brasserie. We also love the lamb chops and the salmon. Congrats to chef Luis Mendoza for doing such a great job in the kitchen. We got him to come out and give us his recipe for the pistachio ravioli. On the whole, our stay here has been wonderful. We look forward to returning. We’ve been to many resorts in Mexico in the Caribbean and this is one of our favourites. We also recommend renting a cabana at the adult only pool. It’s calm, relaxing and beautiful. Last thing, we must say that the servers at the breakfast and lunch buffet, as well as the managers have all been so accommodating and lovely. They really do things right here at the Barcello Maya Palace!

I can’t even say how many times we’ve returned to Barceló because I’ve honestly lost count. I can tell you we’ve been coming here since it was simply Maya Beach back in 1999. The reason we keep coming back is simple—the staff continues to exceed our expectations every single visit. Everyone is genuinely kind, welcoming, and always goes above and beyond to make our stay memorable. If there’s ever a hiccup, it’s handled quickly and professionally. There are so many dining options and activities that you’ll never run out of things to do. And if your idea of the perfect vacation is simply relaxing, you’ll find countless beautiful spots to unwind and enjoy the stunning surroundings. We celebrated an early 40th anniversary with beautiful beach photos that I’d highly recommend doing. After all these years, Barceló still feels like our home away from home, and we look forward to returning again and again. (Shout out to Antonio & Reynaldo in the Carey lobby bar, Natasha with Aqua Fitness, Pablo Vargas outdoor photos and Iris Baez it’s always a pleasure to see you.)

After 11 nights at the Barceló Maya Palace, we left mostly satisfied, with a few reservations. The food was the resort’s main strength: both the buffets and à la carte restaurants were noticeably better than at the other hotels in the complex, and the Kyoto restaurant deserves a special mention for its service and dinner show. The included activities — snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing — were generous, and the beach borders a beautiful reef. The entertainment staff were warm and attentive, particularly Mauricio Gomez (mirador buffet). On the downside, the front desk let us down on several occasions: slow service, staff who seemed poorly informed at times, and an English level that felt insufficient for a hotel of this category — a simple lost t-shirt cost us four days of back-and-forth, resolved in five minutes once an English-speaking staff member got involved. The decor, especially in the lobby, is also starting to feel dated. The pools also need attention (warm water, light stains on swimwear after two days), and the Palace has no proper table tennis table. The beach is worth a mention too: beneath a thin layer of sand lies a hard, near-concrete surface, which caused an ankle injury during a game of beach volleyball. Finally, the hotel’s mobile app needs a complete redesign to help guests navigate the resort, book restaurants, and check activity schedules in real time. Overall rating: 8/10. The food and activities make the stay well worth it, though the front desk, pool maintenance, and beach surface clearly need attention.

What an incredible place to truly call a vacation! Our teens had the time of their lives, from the endless aquatic activities to the fun nightly shows; there was always something exciting to do. The views around the resort are absolutely breathtaking, and the food options were consistently delicious with so much variety to choose from. But what will truly bring us back is the outstanding service. Every staff member we interacted with was professional, kind, and genuinely committed to making our stay comfortable and memorable. Their warmth and attention made the entire experience feel personalized and effortless. This resort delivered everything we hoped for and more. I recently stayed at Barceló Maya Palace and, unfortunately, my experience did not meet the expectations of a five-star resort. The most concerning issue was safety. I had an accident on the rocks that required medical attention, but there was no medical staff available on site when we needed assistance. For a resort of this size, I believe immediate access to medical care should be a priority. Our room also had a cleanliness issue, as we found cockroaches inside. This was very disappointing and not what I expected from a luxury resort. Another concern was the entertainment. Some of the evening shows, such as the Madonna show, contained content that I did not consider appropriate for children under 13. However, there were no visible signs or warnings outside the theater informing families that the performance might not be suitable for younger audiences. Parents should be able to make informed decisions before entering. The check-in and check-out process was also poorly organized. There were long lines in the lobby, and there was no clear signage indicating which line was for check-in and which was for check-out, creating unnecessary confusion and delays. Finally, while there was a wide variety of food available, the overall quality and flavor did not live up to the standards I expected from a resort in this category. Although the property itself is beautiful and offers many amenities ( Coral restaurant manager was very helpful too) these issues significantly affected our stay. I hope the resort addresses them to improve the experience for future guests. FM
