I came to New York to celebrate my birthday, and my boyfriend booked this 4 star hotel as a surprise. The location is the only real advantage. It’s within walking distance of Times Square and Central Park, which is very convenient. The lobby looked nice and modern, and the staff even allowed us to check in early, so my first impression was positive. Unfortunately, everything changed the moment we entered our room. If I could give this hotel 0 stars, I absolutely would. The room looked nothing like what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. In fact, it was worse than a $40 per night hostel. The photos you see on Google may be accurate for some renovated floors, but that was definitely not the room we received. The carpet was so dirty and sticky that it was impossible to walk barefoot. It literally felt like something was stuck to your feet. The room smelled strongly of dampness and mold. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls, everything looked extremely old and neglected, and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if there was mold behind the walls. To make matters worse, the bathroom sink faucet kept dripping even after it was turned off. The hair dryer was broken, and there was no shampoo in the room when we checked in. Housekeeping eventually replaced the hair dryer and brought shampoo after we asked, but these are basic things that should have been checked before guests arrive. We paid around $700 for two nights, which is completely unreasonable for a room in this condition. On top of that, we were charged an additional mandatory facility fee of about $50 per day for the gym and other amenities that we never even used. Be aware that you’ll have to pay this fee regardless. I was really disappointed because this stay was supposed to be part of my birthday celebration. For the price we paid, I expected a clean and comfortable room, not one that looked abandoned for years. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The location is great, but that’s the only positive thing I can say. Everything else was a huge disappointment.

This could be a wonderful hotel, and I genuinely believe it will be once the renovation is complete. It’s currently being refurbished and rebranded as a Crowne Plaza. My biggest piece of advice is do not book a non-renovated room. The older rooms are very tired, worn and well past the point where they should be taken out of service. They are simply not representative of what this hotel is trying to become. During our stay, only two of the six lifts were operational, which resulted in long waits, especially during busy periods. While some disruption is understandable during a major refurbishment, it’s worth noting that the renovation is expected to continue for several years, so these issues are unlikely to disappear any time soon. The staff, however, deserve far more credit than they receive. Every member of the team we dealt with was friendly, professional and genuinely wanted to help. Unfortunately, they spend much of their day dealing with complaints about issues that are completely outside their control. During our stay, I saw Chris at reception being shouted at by three different groups of guests over the condition of the rooms. He remained calm, courteous and did everything he could to help. If you book a renovated room, I think you’ll have a very different experience. The hotel has excellent potential and I look forward to seeing it once the refurbishment is complete. Until then, I would only recommend staying here if you can secure one of the renovated rooms and are prepared for some disruption.

I am very disappointed with my stay at The Manhattan at Times Square. The biggest issue was that there was no hot water, making it impossible to take a comfortable shower. While the hotel explained that it was due to a Con Edison steam outage, the lack of hot water significantly affected our stay. Hot water is a basic amenity that every guest expects. I also paid extra for the breakfast package, but it only included a pastry, a piece of fruit, and a drink. For an additional charge, I expected a much more substantial breakfast. The room itself was outdated and poorly maintained. There was visible cement on the walls, and the housekeeping was below expectations. To make matters worse, one of the housekeeping staff entered our room without knocking, while we were inside. It was an uncomfortable and unacceptable invasion of our privacy. Another major issue was the noise. The walls are extremely thin—you can hear everything happening in the neighboring rooms and the hallway. If you’re looking for a quiet place to rest, this is not it. The hotel’s location near Times Square is convenient, but unfortunately, that was the only highlight of our stay. Between the lack of hot water, the disappointing breakfast, the poor room condition, the lack of privacy, and the excessive noise, I cannot recommend this hotel. There are many better options in New York for the price.

The location was good and near to everything we wanted to see. However, we had many issues. Our room was on the 22nd floor directly next to construction in the room next to us. We would loudly awoken at 7 am to literally drilling in our connecting wall.When we called the front desk they said they had no control over the construction and took no action. AC in room did not work well and room was extremely warm despite being set on low. Shower had poor pressure. Of the 5 elevators in the hotel only two worked making it take forever to go up or down. We wanted to store our bags at the hotel and the bellhop was rude and demanded a tip. We only had small backpacks and didn’t even require help to our room. I understand that it is usual to tip and planned on doing so but verbally demanding a tip is unprofessional and treating people unkindly when you don’t think they are going to tip you is rude and ridiculous. Having a complete attitude change after I hand you cash is completely unacceptable. Overall, not a good place to stay and would not stay again.

Absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe this hotel is in the middle of Manhattan. The lobby makes you think you’re staying somewhere decent, but the second you walk toward the rooms, it’s a completely different story. This honestly felt like a run-down, ghetto hotel in the middle of Manhattan. The hallways smelled terrible, the room had a bad odor, and the whole place felt dirty and neglected. The bathroom was by far the worst part. Hair was everywhere, the bathtub had stains all over it, and the shower curtain looked and smelled like it hadn’t been washed in years. It honestly looked like something out of a horror movie. There was no way I was taking a shower in there. The mattress felt like it was 50 years old, and I barely slept because I couldn’t stop thinking about how dirty everything was. The first thing I wanted to do after waking up was take a shower somewhere else because nothing in that room felt clean. This isn’t an old hotel—it’s a hotel that’s been neglected for years. In my opinion, this place needs a serious health inspection. The worst part? It isn’t even cheap. For the price they charge, you can easily find a much cleaner and better hotel in Manhattan. Save yourself the money and stay somewhere else. I would never come back. I’ve attached photos so you can see for yourself.
