The food was delicious with excellent quality, and the service was outstanding from check-in to check-out. We stayed at Shangri-La Hambantota with my family, and it was one of the best experiences we have ever had. The hotel offers a truly luxurious stay, with outstanding facilities and exceptional hospitality. The staff were amazing, and the service was nothing short of 7-star quality. Everyone was friendly, courteous, and always willing to go the extra mile to make our stay memorable. They made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived and genuinely cared for us throughout our stay. The breakfast was excellent, with a wonderful variety of both Sri Lankan and international dishes. The quality and selection of food were outstanding. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff for making us feel like part of the family. Special thanks to Vinodan and Executive Sous Chef Kolitha for their exceptional care and attention. Their dedication, warmth, and professionalism made our stay even more special. We highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning in the future.

The staff were the highlight of our stay. Everyone was genuinely warm, welcoming, and provided the authentic Sri Lankan hospitality that made us feel well looked after. The buffet dining experience, however, was quite average. Dinner was ordinary, and there weren’t even any fresh juice options available. Breakfast was also average and could benefit from a wider variety. On the positive side, the à la carte menu was excellent. We especially loved the Dolphin Kottu—it was delicious and one of the best meals we had during our stay. Overall, the warm hospitality and great à la carte food were memorable, but the buffet could be improved to better match the rest of the experience.

We recently stayed at the property with our family over the weekend, and overall it was a very pleasant experience. As a travel agent actively working in tourism and also trying to promote more sustainable travel practices through our own work, I was particularly happy to notice one positive initiative by the hotel. The use of toothbrushes with wooden handles was a thoughtful and commendable step towards reducing plastic usage. Small changes like this make a meaningful difference and show a clear awareness of environmental responsibility. However, there is still an important area where the hotel could further improve its sustainability efforts. The rooms continue to use single-use plastic water bottles. A more sustainable and equally premium alternative would be to introduce purified water in reusable glass bottles with sealed caps. This would ensure hygiene standards while also reinforcing guest confidence that the bottles are safely handled and not reused without proper sanitation. Overall, it is encouraging to see steps in the right direction, and we hope to see further improvements in sustainability practices in the future. These changes would significantly strengthen the hotel’s position as a truly eco-conscious luxury property. Note: Our visit was made independently as a family (not booked through our travel agency).

The triple room was notably spacious, offering a comfortable layout with an eye-catching interior design that immediately created a relaxing atmosphere. The room’s ambiance and presentation added a touch of luxury that enhanced the overall stay. The outdoor pools were well maintained, with the main pool standing out due to its stunning view. It is an ideal spot to unwind, especially in the evening, as it provides a perfect vantage point to watch the sunset over the beach—one of the most memorable aspects of the resort. Dining at the resort was also a pleasant experience. The food was delicious, with a variety of options available, and the dining areas were well organized. The staff deserve special mention for their professionalism and attentiveness, ensuring guests are handled in a comfortable and welcoming manner throughout their stay. The golf course was well maintained and appealing, particularly for golf enthusiasts. In addition to golf, the resort offers a range of recreational activities such as 8-ball pool and table tennis. For rugby enthusiasts, the sports and recreational team is readily available to provide equipment like rugby balls, allowing guests to fully enjoy their leisure time on the premises. While certain areas of the property appeared slightly under maintained, it did not significantly detract from the overall experience. The resort still provides a peaceful and pleasant environment, making it a suitable destination for both local and international tourists seeking a relaxing getaway.
