It is a place we visit regularly for pool or to get to beach or to just relax and have a snack at lobby. The view of the sea from the lobby , the music and ambience of the lobby has always been great. The service of coffee shop staff and staff at reception has always been good. The pool is safe, clean and life guards are always on the watch. Whatever snacks available at coffe shop is clean and good. Have been here for their buffets many times and the variety is always good.

"I recently stayed at the Mount Lavinia Hotel and was truly captivated by the location. It is a stunning, historically rich destination with so much heritage to explore inside the property. The atmosphere is perfect, and the food buffet is excellent—offering a wide variety of choices and great value for money. I also want to commend the staff, who remained friendly throughout my stay. ​However, there were some notable management and operational issues that impacted my experience. Most significantly, it took over five hours for our room to be provided with drinking water, which was quite frustrating. Furthermore, the maintenance of the room facilities was not at a satisfactory level, which is a shame given how beautiful the hotel itself is. ​I believe the reception and welcoming process could also be improved to match the caliber of the surroundings. The pool area was fine, but overall, while the location is perfect, the management needs to focus more on internal room maintenance and response times to ensure guests have a comfortable stay. I hope to see these operational aspects improved in the future."

Do not let the historical reputation of Mount Lavinia Hotel fool you staying here was an absolute nightmare and a total waste of money. For the price they charge, this place feels like a complete scam. You can easily find far superior accommodation elsewhere in the area for the same budget. Lack of Maintenance: The ceiling paint was visibly peeling off, and the bed headboard was severely discoloured and stained. Dirty Bedding & Missing Amenities: The bed sheets had noticeable marks on them, and basic essentials like toothpaste were not even provided. Disgusting Bathroom: The bathroom grouting was dark, filthy, and completely unhygienic. Worse yet, there was no hot water available during the stay. Mount Lavinia Hotel is actively ruining Sri Lanka’s reputation and tourism industry by serving guests under these appalling conditions. Management needs to either close this property down immediately or shut it down for a complete, top-to-bottom renovation. Save your money and peace of mind—do yourself a favour and book anywhere else.

I stayed at Mount Lavinia Hotel during my visit to Sri Lanka, for 3 days. The property is located at a very scenic location and it is a grand structure. The hotel retains its charms and is definitely fitting of its legacy. The receptionists were extremely well spoken and polite, and took into account my request for an early check-in. I was provided refreshing welcome drinks at the time of my arrival and I was escorted very warmly by the hotel staff to my room. My room was extremely large in terms of area with functional amenities and an amazing view of the ocean. The room was extremely comfortable and all toiletries were provided. The staff did a commendable job in making me have a relaxing stay. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting Colombo.

Worst hotel in Colombo. We stayed at Mount Lavinia for 5days with my toddler and had a horrible experience from checkin till checkout. We routinely travel with our toddler and never have had such a poor experience. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. Hotel is situated at a picturesque location but the staff show poor hospitality. We had to wait for more than 2 hours past the checkin time to actually be assigned rooms. Our party got rooms in different floors and I had to fight to get those reassigned. So many families traveling with children that day had issues with room assignments and all the children were running around crying and screaming in the lobby. The front desk was short staffed and didn’t have the basic courtesy to offer water/ snacks or the WiFi passcode given the delay. The two male managers who eventually showed up were sarcastic and so rude, and they didn’t step up to help the front desk folks. One of the manager literally said “Go Away” after handing the room keys to me. The staff did not take any time to explain directions to our room or restaurant within the hotel. There were no pamphlets or information desk available for tourists visiting the property. Room maintenance was so sloppy, the floors were left soaking wet every time we got the rooms cleaned. For a beach hotel, they don’t give any floor mats or extra towels. There is no room service available and this was a real difficulty while traveling with a toddler. Almost all the hotel staff overlooked us and either stared or passed racist comments at us. We definitely were treated differently than other Indian or White tourists. The breakfast and the restaurant was very sub par in the taste and service. There was shockingly no high chairs or baby friendly accommodations for the fact that there was a toddler. One good thing was the tours & travel group associated with the hotel. They reached out a week ahead of our trip and helped organize our airport pickups, and tours within Sri Lanka.
