We last holidayed in Madeira 25 years ago a family vacation with kids. Now we’re returning to all those places to see what they’re really like. Funchal is transformed infrastructure totally revamped, huge tunnels enabling quicker journeys. Huge change. However The Royal Savoy has not changed, it has remained brilliant! We remember how wonderful the service was back then, it’s still the highlight of the offering. Charming, helpful and totally professional. The food in each restaurant is excellent. The rooms are well equipped with comfortable beds and fabulous facilities in the suites. The location is perfect, swim in a pool, swim in the ocean, take your pick. Nice walk into town. If you choose to eat out a range of good options nearby. A quality experience created by exceptional people

More than five stars. More than five-star! I came here after three years caring for my Dad who passed away last year, exhausted, unwell, and in need of genuine rest. I had written ahead asking for a quiet room on a high floor where I could watch the sea. What I received went so far beyond that request that I'm still thinking about it weeks later. Fernando Costa, one of the managers, met us on arrival and gave us a personal tour of the whole hotel; warm, funny, charismatic, and completely focused on us. Our room on the sixth floor had a long balcony running parallel to the coastline. Every evening we sat out there and watched the last boats come into port before bed. It became our ritual. It was exactly what three years of grief needed. The turndown cards, the canapés at the Welcome Evening, the pool team who were there before you needed them, every detail was thoughtful, every member of staff genuinely warm. This hotel doesn't just offer five-star service. It offers the feeling of being truly looked after. We're returning at Christmas. That says everything.

One of the best hotel experiences we have had. Perfect location, multiple swimming pools with an easy access to the sea from the property itself. Our stay at the Royal Savoy in Madeira was truly unforgettable, and so much of that comes down to the incredible people who made us feel so welcome from start to finish. The restaurant staff were absolutely exceptional. Every meal felt like a special occasion not just because of the delicious food, but because of the warmth, attentiveness, and genuine care shown by the team. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable, remembered our preferences, and always greeted us with a smile. Their kindness and professionalism really elevated our entire experience. A special mention also goes to the housekeeping team, especially the maid who looked after our room. We returned each day to a space that was spotless, beautifully presented, and so thoughtfully maintained. It’s clear that a lot of pride goes into their work, and it made such a difference to feel so relaxed and looked after throughout our stay. More broadly, the hospitality we experienced across Madeira was just incredible. There is such a genuine warmth and friendliness from everyone you meet on the island it feels welcoming, safe, and sincere. Whether in the hotel or out exploring, we were met with kindness at every turn. Average stay—showing its age with poor service and communication. We stayed here recently and found the hotel to be just alright, but it is definitely starting to show its age. While the overall experience was okay, our room had a few noticeable maintenance issues that could use some attention. The service throughout our experience was a major letdown. One of the older receptionists was quite grumpy, and when we dealt with the trip booking team, they didn't seem very knowledgeable about what they were offering. To top it off, if you have a complaint or experience any issues during your stay, do not expect a response from management. The total lack of communication and follow-up was highly disappointing.
