We spent a week at this hotel at the end of May 2026. I rate the hotel's location as very good. The hotel is located by the ocean, with beautiful views from the room and close to various restaurants. It's about an hour's walk to the center of Funchal. The room was clean and the hotel was well-maintained. The wonderful Marlen made our stay enjoyable with her good humor. Best regards Marlen! The hotel grounds are very nice, with large pools and an indoor pool with warm water. The food is tasty but too repetitive. It's always the same, and the queues for the buffet are often too long. A negative is the paid parking, which costs 15 euros for a day. Apparently, every hotel charges this much in Madeira these days, but I think the price for guests is too high. Overall, I rate the hotel highly and would gladly return.

Dear Hotel Manager and the entire Pestana Grand team, We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your exceptional hospitality during our stay. We were deeply touched by the wonderful surprise you prepared for my birthday on June 25 and for my partner's birthday on June 28. Receiving a bottle of champagne in our room on both occasions made these special days even more memorable. Your kindness, attention to detail, professionalism, and the excellent service provided by every member of your team have made us feel truly welcome and valued. Thank you for everything you have done to make our stay so enjoyable. We will always remember your hospitality with great appreciation and will gladly recommend Pestana Grand to our family and friends. With sincere thanks and best wishes, Oliviu & Iuliana

We were put in this hotel when our flight was cancelled. We had spent the week in a different 4 star plus which was excellent. The Pestana Grand was a very different experience. The hotel has a general shabby appearance, the room looked grubby and shabby, the bed was hard and lumpy, the food was mediocre at best and the restaurant staff were unhelpful and looked very miserable. The bar and reception staff were ok and the grounds are very well tended. The outdoor pools have cracked cement and peeling paint. This hotel could do with a complete makeover as its position is lovely.

My stay at Pestana Grand was a mix of highlights and disappointments. While the hotel’s location is undeniably excellent, several operational and technical issues significantly affected the overall experience. I am sharing this feedback in hopes that management will take constructive action. The Highlights: Stunning Views & Location: The panoramic views are breathtaking. Having direct access to the promenade is a fantastic feature for those who enjoy walking. Convenience: The proximity to a large shopping center is very practical and adds great value to the stay. Pool Area: The swimming pool was kept impeccably clean, providing a very pleasant environment for relaxation. Areas for Improvement: 1. Dining Experience and Management: The dinner service was the most disappointing aspect of the stay. The food was often uninspiring and lacked flavor, with frequent shortages of key ingredients. Logistics: Poor station layout and malfunctioning machines (e.g., coffee/drink dispensers) led to long queues, even outside of peak season. Staff Organization: There seems to be a lack of clear role distribution among the waitstaff. This resulted in many tables remaining uncleaned and unready for new guests, despite staff being present in the dining area. 2. Maintenance and Facilities: The hotel is showing significant signs of wear and tear and is in need of refurbishment: Carpeting: Many carpets in common areas are stained, worn, or lifting, which detracts from the hotel's premium feel. General Repairs: I noticed doors swollen from humidity, as well as bathroom and room fixtures that were poorly secured or falling off. These small but visible issues suggest a lack of routine maintenance. Summary: Pestana Grand has a wonderful soul and a prime location, but it currently feels like it lacks strong operational oversight. Improving the flow of the dining room and addressing the technical "wear and tear" would vastly improve the guest experience and the hotel's reputation.

Stayed at the hotel for 1 week on the 22-29th June we found location to be excellent the views were fantastic. Rooms were ok not as seem on the website different bit out dated . Food was diabolical there isn’t any Choice at breakfast we are vegetarian and there is a lot of cold meat and generally meat dishes . Also lunch not much choice same fries and toast for veg diet the restaurants we booked in hotel had same veg menu in buffet Italian and Moroccan it was very strange to be offered Italian. Veg in Moroccan restaurant. When we visit other places they will make an effort to make a chickpea curry and rice or something to Indian taste but in this hotel they don’t . Overall I would not stay at this hotel again .
