Fantastic two week holiday at Filitheyo Island Resort. Visited July 2026 and stayed in one of the beautiful over water villas. The island is very authentic Maldivian and the atmosphere was fantastic. Food at the restaurant was absolutely fantastic, especially the desserts! All Inclusive drinks were good, if a little short on choice. The reef at the island is the best we have been to. Saw Rays, Turtles, Sharks, Dolphins & Octopus, in addition to the amazing colourful fish to see. Evenings were quiet at the resort, two bars to choose from and no entertainment ( which was a plus in our opinion). If there was one negative I would say about this resort is that there is no adults area and the only pool can be busy with kids! But if you’re ok with that, then this place is perfect. Special mention to the amazing staff who are all really friendly and genuinely want to make your holiday great. Special mention to Faruk in the Sunset Bar, he works especially hard and deserves so much credit for keeping the pool guests happy. He is genuinely a lovely man. Would definitely recommend and would return to Filitheyo tomorrow. Lovely place.

Location The island is stunning: lush, spacious enough to avoid feeling crowded, and genuinely beautiful. The reef is exceptional, with an impressive variety of marine life. The drop-off at the reef edge is particularly striking and makes snorkeling here a real highlight. Resort & service Transfers from and to the airport were very well organized. The hydravion experience, while not always punctual, offers a remarkable aerial view that is worth the trip in itself. Service, however, is inconsistent and falls short of what would be expected from a resort of this positioning. Staff generally complete their duties, but attentiveness and hospitality vary significantly, and at times the experience feels more transactional than welcoming. Even simple requests, such as a second drink, can require unnecessary effort. The buffet is abundant in quantity, but the variety becomes repetitive over a longer stay. During peak hours, queues at several stations are long and poorly managed, which affects the overall dining experience. The Main Bar team stands out as a clear exception, consistently more engaged and noticeably more welcoming than elsewhere in the resort. The physical condition of the resort is a real concern in several areas. Many facilities show clear and visible wear that goes well beyond “character”: worn-out sun loungers, damaged cushions, deteriorating wooden walkways, and exposed screws in multiple places. These are not minor cosmetic issues but signs of insufficient maintenance. In addition, visible litter in and around the water at times detracts from the otherwise beautiful natural environment. Overall The natural environment and reef are truly exceptional and easily the highlight of the stay. However, the resort experience is inconsistent and does not reflect the standards advertised. The location is worth visiting for the reef alone, but the hospitality and maintenance level do not match the positioning of a premium resort.

First & foremost: the resort has virtually zero safety procedures. This, for an island that has strong currents. We were pulled 80-90 metres out toward open sea within 2-3 minutes; fortunately we had lifejackets on, but after shouting/ yelling for help, fellow guests swam out with a life-ring, one of those had to be helped back too - it took 20 minutes to get back to shore, there was no sign of staff at all until back on shore when a barman wandered over and asked if we were OK. We complained; the Manager lied and said he had launched the rescue boat, but heard we were OK so cancelled it. He said it was launched at 14:17, cancelled at 14:25. We were less than 500m from the jetty. Can a speedboat not cover 500m in 8 minutes? They lied. They did nothing. There is no flag warning system, no patrol, no lifeguard. Ridiculously, there is an 'emergency phone box' hidden away in the island - see the photo. That's it. We have complained bitterly to the Ministry of Tourism, who have launched a formal investigation. I am very happy to share the emails in which they confirm this. The 'villas' are not rustic/authentic, they are dilapidated and worn, desperately in need of updating. The "entertainment" consists solely of a tatty dartboard with virtually unusable darts, a ping-pong table with 3 balls - all damaged, and an unusable pool table - the cloth is torn. The pathways around the island are hardened, a poor barefoot experience. The frontline staff are wonderful, they work tirelessly and are full of smiles. The Chef's team produce a wonderfully creative array of good food. Yes, its the Maldives, warm turquoise shoreline and a white sandy beach, but it's a VERY poor Maldives experience: the worst we've experienced by a country mile. I urge you to choose somewhere else - you literally could not do worse.

This is an attempt to raise attention to the management of Filitheyo Island. I have written two emails meanwhile without response mentioning the animal welfare situation of the local cats which seem to dissappear here and then for years. Zoophilist Maldives tries to get a neutering program onto the island to finally control the population. Throwing cats into the ocean, which is an ongoing rumour, is not a solution. It is gross. If you book this Island you might be confronted with animal welfare negligence and abuse. To whom it may concern, you have my contact details.

Amazing one island resort. Just like you see Maledives in advertisements. Beautiful sea and beaches. Good accommodation. Friendly and helpful staff. Good quality of food served. Number of additional excursions available. Nice SPA with range of treatments. Diving center. Small but reasonable fitness room. In general calm place for extra lazy and relaxing holidays. Attention: WiFi paid additionally (over $120 per week)!
