Jamaica

Family Fun

Holidaymakers seeking family fun will find it in bundles in Jamaica. Located in the Caribbean Sea, this paradise island promises soft sand that’s great for building sand castles and calm, shallow waters teeming with marine life – perfect for children to splash and play and spot colourful fish. You’ll also have access to a plethora of child-friendly water sports like kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling and boat trips. For families with older children, many hotels include a PADI-certified diving school that will take you out scuba diving along the diverse reefs. Family-friendly hotels may also include a kids’ club, swimming pools, water slides, playgrounds and age-appropriate evening entertainment. The magical resort of Ocho Rios blends luxury with excitement, and your whole family can feel the thrills of the Mystic Mountain adventure park with ziplines through the rainforest, rock climbing, a bobsleigh ride inspired by the movie Cool Runnings, and much more.

Jamaica

Culture and Cuisine

There’s plenty of culture to soak up as well as sunshine on a Jamaica getaway and the best place to start is on a rum distillery tour. Not far from Montego Bay, the Hampden Estate is one of the oldest distilleries on the island, dating back to the 1750s, and offers an insight into the island’s history, as well as rum tastings and a dining experience. Plan your holiday to coincide with Carnival. This extravagant cultural event takes place across the whole island around Eastertime and showcases colourful costumes, decorations, music, dancing and festivities. Immerse yourself even further into Jamaica's culture and heritage by dining on traditional fare, like the national dish of Saltfish and Ackee, or other moreish meals like jerk chicken, curry goat and rice and peas. You’ll discover a culinary profile influenced by Taino, African, European, Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern flavours that represents Jamaica and the wider Caribbean's kaleidoscopic history.

Jamaica

Beach Bliss

For a divine beach escape, there’s no better destination than the tropical island of Jamaica. Mesmerising coastlines border the Caribbean Sea, showcasing immaculate white sands and warm, inviting waters. Montego Bay is one of Jamaica’s most popular resorts thanks to its stunning shorelines. Doctor’s Cave Beach is 300 metres-long and boasts a vibrant coral reef as well as sublime conditions for water sports, while Cornwall Beach is a tranquil alternative only a stone’s throw away from Doctor’s Cave. Ocho Rios promises bustling beaches located conveniently beside any amenity you could need on your Jamaica holiday. Ocho Rios Bay, also known as Turtle Beach, is situated close to many bars, restaurants and cafés. There is a small fee to enter but we’re sure you’ll agree it’s worth it when you see the spotless sand. For one of the world’s top-rated beaches, you have to stay in Negril and experience the true beauty of Seven Mile Beach.

Jamaica

Action and Adventure

The varying landscapes and daring attractions make Jamaica a superb destination for an adventure holiday. One of the most famous sites in Ocho Rios is Dunn’s River Falls. This cascading waterfall reaches a height of 180 feet and offers hiking, climbing, ziplining and swimming to those seeking outdoor fun. Nestled in the hills of St Mary, the Blue Hole is a free natural swimming pool brimming with sparkling waters. Nature enthusiasts can wade in the pools, explore the caves and get active on the rope swings. Ocho Rios’ White River is the perfect place for rafting – take in the sights of the lush foliage and waterfalls as you feel the thrill of the rapids. Similarly, a holiday to Montego Bay lets visitors go spelunking through the Green Grotto’s underground caves on a guided tour. Popular in many of Jamaica’s resorts, horse riding will take you off the beaten path to admire the island’s true beauty.

Jamaica

Exciting Nightlife

Opt for a holiday to Jamaica if you're searching for good vibes, a booming nightlife and flowing beverages. The home of reggae music, you’ll find a plethora of exciting hotspots across the island that are open till dawn and cater to all music tastes. Negril is a centre for music and evening antics, especially on Norman Manley Boulevard. This hub borders Seven Mile Beach and boasts a number of entertainment and dining venues like Jungle Night Club, the most popular in the resort. For a unique experience, definitely visit the Blackwell Rum Bar as it’s hidden away in an oceanfront cave and serves cocktails by candlelight. Montego Bay is also bursting with trendy places that you can’t miss out on your party holiday. Stop off at the likes of Pier Pressure, a beachfront club with live music, Blue Beat Ultra Lounge, a jazz bar, and Elevate Night Club & Lounge that serves up a chic atmosphere and delicious Jamaican food.

Time

Best time to visit

The moment you step off the plane, you’ll be welcomed by Jamaica’s sublime tropical climate, year-round sunshine and lovely warm temperatures. The best time to visit the island would be between December and March as you can look forward to consistently dry conditions and a pleasant average of 25℃. April and May are also a wonderful time to visit, especially as a family or if you’re hoping to get active with some outdoor adventures, as the temperatures are slightly lower but still warm. June to November sees the temperatures rise to an average of 27℃, but you’ll often see the mercury breach the 30s at this time of year. This is the official hurricane season, so you will experience higher rainfall and more humidity, but this also means that there are better deals on flights and accommodations. If you do travel during this time, ensure you pack accordingly and keep an eye on local weather updates.
