The Gates Hotel South Beach - A Doubletree by Hilton

I’m giving The Gates South Beach a 2.5/5 because my experience was half good, half bad. Check-in was frustrating. I booked a king suite with a balcony, but was initially given the wrong room. When I addressed it, the front desk agent, Carlos, was dismissive and acted like it was my fault, telling me to take it up with the third-party site despite my confirmation clearly showing what I booked. The hotel itself has a nice, clean aesthetic and the room was spacious, but the bathroom was a major downside. The shower was extremely small and uncomfortable, and the layout felt poorly designed (pictures attached). We were also looking forward to the advertised fragrance making class, but it didn’t seem to actually be offered. On top of that, the bartender appeared intoxicated. He asked my name and what I was drinking multiple times, even forgetting that he had already made my drink and leaving it sitting there. He was kind enough to remake it, but the lack of professionalism was disappointing. Overall, there were enjoyable aspects which were the hotel’s aesthetic and cleanliness were appreciated. But between the room issues, poor customer service, bathroom design, missing amenities (took almost an hour for me to get washcloths that housekeeping forgot to supply), and unprofessional staff, the experience was underwhelming.

My stay at the The Gates Hotel South Beach was exceptional from start to finish. The staff consistently delivered high-quality service, creating a welcoming and seamless experience throughout my visit. A special recognition goes to Pari, who truly elevated the stay. She was super responsive, attentive, and proactive in addressing every request. Her professionalism and commitment to guest satisfaction made a noticeable difference and set a high standard for service excellence. Overall, a standout experience driven by a strong team and exceptional individual performance. Highly recommended.

Worst hotel ever! The service started off horrible when we arrived. No valet attendant at the valet area. The rooms are not anything special and the young girl at the desk was horrible. Not to mention the power went out at 8 PM!!! You would think they would understand and offer you a water in the heat without power but no! They didn’t seem to care that their guests were unhappy and didn’t have power. We waiting until about 10PM and still no power. My daughter and I had to leave and luckily we found a much better hotel with power! Do not stay at the gates!

The hotel is very nice, clean and smells really good. The people are also so nice and they always greet you. Scott was amazing. He is very nice and welcoming!! We will be back for sure with more people to have them enjoy that beautiful stay! Thanks again Scott for your warm welcoming.

Check-in was smooth, the front desk accommodated an early arrival without issue, and the room was neat upon entry. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. The AC never worked properly, holding at 73°F throughout the night with no ability to lower it, uncomfortably hot and humid. Heavy rain that evening caused significant water to leak into the room, soaking the first four feet of carpet near the window. A few folded clothing items and a pair of leather shoes left on the floor were completely ruined. When we brought this to the front desk, they sent maintenance up but it was clear they were already aware of the problem. We overheard another guest reporting the exact same issue, and staff acted as though it was news to them. It wasn’t. We genuinely wanted to love this place. The location, check-in experience, and overall vibe had us excited. But between a broken AC, a flooded room, and a front desk that seemed more interested in managing the situation than actually resolving it, the stay was a disappointment. I wouldn’t recommend booking here until these maintenance issues are addressed. At a minimum, guests should be warned not to leave belongings on the floor, something as simple as a notice in the room would have saved us real loss.
