We recently enjoyed 3 nights stay in a Premier sea facing balcony room. We absolutely love the classic, heritage charm of this property! The room was impeccably clean, and everything functioned perfectly during our stay. However, we feel there is significant room for improvement when it comes to the dining experience. Given that Penang is world-renowned for its incredible food, we were hoping for a culinary experience to match. We dined at the hotel restaurant for dinner every evening and even invited friends to join us, but unfortunately, the flavors were underwhelming. We also tried the breakfast one morning and found it to be quite average, with a few dishes we simply didn't enjoy. Furthermore, the waiting times for both food and drinks were unusually long for a hotel restaurant of this standard. I also want to respectfully highlight a service lapse regarding our Titanium Elite benefits. One evening, we visited the restaurant for our complimentary drinks and snacks about 5 to 10 minutes before the cut off time. To our surprise, the staff informed us that the chef did not want to cook anymore. This felt quite dismissive and was definitely not the level of hospitality we are accustomed to. Despite the setbacks with the food and beverage service, we genuinely love the property itself and will absolutely be coming back in the future. We sincerely hope management takes this feedback to heart to elevate the dining experience and make future stays truly unforgettable!

We recently stayed at Lone Pine Hotel in Penang for a short family getaway. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. Upon check-in, we were assigned a room directly above the wedding hall, where a wedding reception was scheduled for the following day. As a family with two children, our immediate concern was whether they would be able to sleep with the noise. It made us wonder why hotel guests looking for a peaceful stay were placed above the event venue, instead of allocating those rooms to guests attending the wedding. Thankfully, after some discussion, we were moved to another room, but this could have been handled much better from the start. Another issue was the large number of crows around the property, especially near the swimming pool and outdoor dining area. They were constantly scavenging for food from tables, making it quite unpleasant to relax or enjoy a meal outdoors. This is something the hotel really needs to address, as it affects the overall guest experience. The service was also slower than expected. Even simple requests, such as asking for a glass of water or the bill, took an unusually long time. While the staff were polite, the level of attentiveness did not match what we would expect from a hotel of this reputation. Lone Pine was once one of our favourite hotels in Penang, which makes this experience even more disappointing. It feels like the hotel has lost some of the charm and service that made it so special. I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback seriously. With better room allocation, improved service standards, and a solution to the crow problem, Lone Pine has every opportunity to become the wonderful hotel it once was.

This was my first time returning to Penang after almost eight years, and I was honestly unsure where I should stay in Penang. However, the moment I arrived at this resort, I immediately knew I had made the right choice. The architecture of this property is exactly what I had imagined and hoped for — beautifully designed with a timeless colonial charm, set elegantly against the side of a small hill overlooking the sea. The entire atmosphere feels peaceful, refined, and relaxing without trying too hard. I booked a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony facing the ocean, and it truly elevated the entire experience. In fact, I enjoyed the property so much that I extended my stay immediately after checking in. The staff throughout the resort were genuinely warm, friendly, and hospitable, which made the stay even more pleasant. That said, I do believe both the resort and the team themselves would greatly benefit from more structured professional hospitality training. There is absolutely nothing wrong with their attitude or willingness to help — in fact, their friendliness is one of the resort’s strengths — but with stronger professional service training, this property could easily elevate itself to a far higher standard internationally. Another area with huge potential would be the beachfront experience. The resort management should seriously consider enhancing or integrating the beachfront area directly in front of the property. At the moment, the presence of multiple local vendor setups somewhat obstructs the otherwise beautiful sea views from the bar, pool, and common sitting areas. Improving this aspect would significantly enhance the guest experience and further elevate the exclusivity and overall positioning of the resort. In terms of dining, the existing all-day dining restaurant is pleasant, but I do think the resort could introduce more culinary experiences to complement such a beautiful setting. For example, seafood dinners, barbecue evenings, or outdoor dining concepts on the lawn overlooking the beach and sea would create an even more memorable atmosphere for guests. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed my stay here. The property has character, charm, and tremendous potential. It has now become my top choice whenever I visit Penang, and I would gladly return again instead of staying elsewhere.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. The facilities were excellent, and the location was convenient with easy access to nearby attractions. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a pleasant and relaxing stay. I look forward to staying here again!

We stayed here for our friend’s birthday retreat, and it was fantastic. The room was spacious, felt really luxurious, and was incredibly comfortable. The staff were so friendly and welcoming; we especially loved the welcome drinks, the in-house dining, and the sunset bar. The sunsets here are honestly superb! I’d highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a calm, soothing retreat away from the city life.
