This was my second stay at Lone Pine, Penang, and once again, it reminded me why I would happily return. The check-in counter has been relocated to what I believe used to be the library. Check-in was fast, smooth and easy, and I was assigned a room on Level 2 overlooking the beach. And that view — absolutely breathtaking. There is something incredibly calming about waking up to the sea, hearing the waves and smelling the ocean air. Most of the time, I actually kept the sliding doors open just so I could listen to the sound of the waves from my room. The room itself was huge, clean and spotless. I especially appreciated having a ceiling fan, which was perfect when I wanted to leave the balcony doors open rather than use the air-conditioning. The bathroom and shower were equally clean, with good water pressure. The large king bed was very comfortable and I slept well, apart from one rather unusual issue: the alarm went off during both nights of my stay. However, this is where Lone Pine really impressed me. During both nights of my stay, the smoke alarm would go off by itself, about few minutes or so. This disrupts my sleep esp that i am a light sleeper. The staff apologised profusely and genuinely wanted to know what they could do to make up for the inconvenience. Sometimes, what matters most is not the problem itself — things can go wrong in any hotel, and it may not even be the staff’s fault — but how the hotel responds when something does go wrong. The way the team handled the situation made me feel valued as a guest and, more importantly, gave me confidence to stay here again. I had also wanted to try their evening picnic experience, but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate during my stay. Perhaps next time! One small thing I missed from my previous stay was the hammock in the garden. I remember it being such a lovely touch, but I could not find it this time. I hope they bring it back — there is really nothing quite like relaxing under the trees with the sea just a few steps away. Breakfast was enjoyable with a good selection as well. I would have easily given this stay a full 5 stars, but because of the alarm issue on both nights, I think 4.5/5 is fair. Nevertheless, I will definitely return. In fact, Lone Pine is one of those hotels that could make me come back to Penang just to stay here again. The beautiful beachfront setting, spacious room, sound of the waves and, above all, the way the staff looked after me made this a memorable stay. See you again, Lone Pine. 🌊

I had wonderful stay at this hotel. Staff were friendly, always ready to help. Room was clean, and has it own privacy. My son enjoy every single second there. The heavenly bed make me falling asleep to the sound of waves is the kind of luxury money rarely buys. The facilities were excellent and great. Lone Pine make me feel "I will be back"

We stayed here for our friend’s birthday retreat, and it was fantastic. The room was spacious, felt really luxurious, and was incredibly comfortable. The staff were so friendly and welcoming; we especially loved the welcome drinks, the in-house dining, and the sunset bar. The sunsets here are honestly superb! I’d highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a calm, soothing retreat away from the city life.

We recently enjoyed 3 nights stay in a Premier sea facing balcony room. We absolutely love the classic, heritage charm of this property! The room was impeccably clean, and everything functioned perfectly during our stay. ​However, we feel there is significant room for improvement when it comes to the dining experience. Given that Penang is world-renowned for its incredible food, we were hoping for a culinary experience to match. We dined at the hotel restaurant for dinner every evening and even invited friends to join us, but unfortunately, the flavors were underwhelming. We also tried the breakfast one morning and found it to be quite average, with a few dishes we simply didn't enjoy. Furthermore, the waiting times for both food and drinks were unusually long for a hotel restaurant of this standard. ​I also want to respectfully highlight a service lapse regarding our Titanium Elite benefits. One evening, we visited the restaurant for our complimentary drinks and snacks about 5 to 10 minutes before the cut off time. To our surprise, the staff informed us that the chef did not want to cook anymore. This felt quite dismissive and was definitely not the level of hospitality we are accustomed to. ​Despite the setbacks with the food and beverage service, we genuinely love the property itself and will absolutely be coming back in the future. We sincerely hope management takes this feedback to heart to elevate the dining experience and make future stays truly unforgettable!

We recently stayed at Lone Pine Hotel in Penang for a short family getaway. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. Upon check-in, we were assigned a room directly above the wedding hall, where a wedding reception was scheduled for the following day. As a family with two children, our immediate concern was whether they would be able to sleep with the noise. It made us wonder why hotel guests looking for a peaceful stay were placed above the event venue, instead of allocating those rooms to guests attending the wedding. Thankfully, after some discussion, we were moved to another room, but this could have been handled much better from the start. Another issue was the large number of crows around the property, especially near the swimming pool and outdoor dining area. They were constantly scavenging for food from tables, making it quite unpleasant to relax or enjoy a meal outdoors. This is something the hotel really needs to address, as it affects the overall guest experience. The service was also slower than expected. Even simple requests, such as asking for a glass of water or the bill, took an unusually long time. While the staff were polite, the level of attentiveness did not match what we would expect from a hotel of this reputation. Lone Pine was once one of our favourite hotels in Penang, which makes this experience even more disappointing. It feels like the hotel has lost some of the charm and service that made it so special. I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback seriously. With better room allocation, improved service standards, and a solution to the crow problem, Lone Pine has every opportunity to become the wonderful hotel it once was.
