I booked two rooms for my family from December 20–24 and had a wonderful stay. The security was excellent, vehicles were checked upon entry, and all bags were screened before entering the property, which made me feel very safe. Check-in was smooth and welcoming. The staff were professional and thoughtful, offering us tea upon arrival and even giving my daughters two elephant keychains, which was a lovely touch. The family room was very spacious and well worth the price, with two beds already set up and a great view. The second room was also comfortable and well maintained. Service throughout our stay was outstanding. Our housekeeper, Sally, went above and beyond by creating adorable elephant and dog towel designs each morning. Her attention to detail truly made our stay special. The bar also had great drinks with great staff members like Doy and Kinsley. The hotel’s location was very convenient, just a few minutes’ walk from two 7-Eleven stores, Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, and Anusarn Market. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and I would definitely book this hotel again.

We had a great stay at this hotel! Great location and beautiful pool area. The Kad Kafe on site restaurant/bar does vegan Thai curry and has a good variety of vegetarian options. Special shoutout to Praew in the spa and Joe from housekeeping. Joe did an incredible job with birthday decorations and was so friendly throughout our stay!

Where are all the stars gone ? Definitely not a 5 star. The Pros: • Excellent service from Waii: Waii stood out for her warm, professional demeanor — assisting during the airport meet-and-greet and again at the Horizon Club Lounge. Her attentiveness was a highlight in an otherwise inconsistent service experience. • Beautiful sunset views: The view from our room on the 12th floor was nice, especially during sunset — a definite visual treat. • Spacious rooms: The room was large and comfortable, offering plenty of space to relax. Cons: • Ageing property: The hotel feels dated throughout, from the room décor to general facilities. It lacks the modern touch and freshness expected from a hotel in this category. • Service inconsistencies: Outside of Waii, service left much to be desired. Despite a late departure, we were not allowed to stay in the lounge and were instead directed to wait in the lobby — an experience that felt unaccommodating and lacked hospitality. • Dull atmosphere: Compared to newer properties in the area like the Marriott, which feels lively and contemporary, Shangri-La felt overly quiet and somewhat lifeless. • Lounge shortcomings: The Horizon Club Lounge is undersized for the number of guests it serves, especially during cocktail hours. Some popular spirits were unavailable in the lounge but found elsewhere in the hotel. When I asked to speak with management about this, the duty manager said the concern would be passed on, but I never received any follow-up. Overall: While the hotel offers spacious rooms and good views, the dated facilities and inconsistent service make it hard to recommend over other options in Chiang Mai. A full renovation and stronger attention to guest experience would help bring Shangri-La Chiang Mai closer to the luxury standard it aims to represent.

Dear anybody who is planning to stay at the Shangri-La Hotel in Chang-Mai, reconsider your options immediately. As a foodie myself, the options were horrendous. The chocolate brioche does not have enough chocolate in it, and as crazy as that sounds, it really shows that the little details matter in these moments considering how much you pay for the room (500 dollars). While some people may not consider the food to be a problem, there were other issues that occurred during my stay. There was a huge lack of communication when it came to customer service and trying to help my family and I. Whether it was booking dinner reservations out in the city, trying to get in touch with a shuttle, or even trying to order things in the morning, it took an abnormally long time for what it should have been. To bring out a platter of eggs you would assume would take 10 minutes maximum but in reality, it could take up to 45 minutes to an hour! There are many people that don’t give you friendly looks, and the staff are not very caring people. Not to mention, the hypothermia inducing pool at approximately 15°. I don’t know how anyone survives in there. The spa is OK, nothing too special. The place itself is pretty old, and very dirty. The rugs looked like they haven’t been cleaned in about 20 years in the decor is basic and cheap. Going back to what I said about customer service, one day after calling over at least 10 restaurants, all of them were booked so we were forced to eat at the hotel. They had a Chinese restaurant that looked absolutely horrible and grotesque. Even though it was completely empty, they refused to take us and said we had to wait an extra two hours before we would even be able to enter. It was simply ridiculous. I am very detailed and precise when it comes to these reviews and I really hope you read the entire thing because everything I said is very truthful and non-biased.

Great location, walking distance to local night markets and shops near by to get basics like water and laundry. We had booked a Horizon room and the service offered by Min was exceptional, with anything we asked for not being an issue! We had breakfast here every morning which offered eggs to order, toasts and fruit. Concierge was excellent, always willing to help and offer recommendations of where to go. We used the pool one afternoon and it was very cold but refreshing. The gym was well equipped but spoilt by large groups, making a lot of noise, taking over the place and in short, shirt and sandals! Staff should enforce the rules for the gym.
