We love historic hotels, so we were excited to stay at the Beacon Grand. The lobby is beautiful. The location is excellent and made it easy to get everywhere we wanted to go. We booked a junior suite, but it didn’t feel worth the extra cost. It was essentially a standard room with a mismatched couch squeezed into it. The room had only five hangers, no robes (apparently you have to request them, which is annoying), and it was on the fifth floor facing the street, so the noise was constant—jackhammering in the morning and street fights at night. When I called the front desk to complain about the noise, the response was, “What would you like me to do, ask the police to be quiet?” An apology or an offer to move us to another room would have gone a long way. The bell staff, door staff, and housekeeping team were fantastic. Unfortunately, everyone else came across as distant and inconvenienced by guests. One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was the Starlight Room on the 21st floor. Unfortunately, it was closed for all three days of our stay, which was a real disappointment. We were there to celebrate a special event and the hotel experience dampened things a bit.

We stayed in room 1527 next to the elevator so we heard the ding and people throughout the night however, the bed & pillows were comfortable, the staff was kind and accommodating. The starlight roof top was a cool atmosphere but over priced, same as the other restaurant in the hotel, the post. Overall, good hotel but lots of room for improvement.

We loved our stay at Beacon. The only negative thing was the noise. We were on the 3rd floor, facing the road and we could hear e everything. If you are sensitive to noise, choose a room on the back and a higher floor. Apart from that we loved our stay at such a historical place. Beautiful decoration. Central location. Right next to Union Square. Nice staff, clean rooms, good beds / pillows. Highly recommend.

It is a great old hotel, modernised enough to be successful now. It has a lively bar at the top floor and it is fairly big. Higher up rooms are spared the noise from the street. Two king sized beds do not leave a lot of room, but it is enough. The bathroom would benefit from closed shower, but there is little else to fault it. The WiFi is good and reliable.

My daughter and I stayed in the Beacon Grand for a week in July while we were in San Francisco for a conference. There was a lot we loved about the hotel: the beds were very comfy, we slept well; everything looked beautiful and was well maintained; when my daughter asked for help with the TV a competent technical person came up pretty quickly; the front desk staff were friendly and very helpful. I didn't give it five stars though mostly because I was given a room upgrade I didn't ask for - and then billed extra for it! An extra $500+ in fact. A bunch of those charges were taxes and fees but also $50/day extra for the "upgrade". Hotels used to give you upgrades for free - what is going on now?? Just seems like another money grab. Secondly, when I called to get an email copy of this bill then I had to call about 3 different numbers and in each case the phone just rang and rang. Finally on the 4th try I reached a person. I had to explain and re-explain about three different times what I wanted, and to spell out my email address. Meanwhile she kept interrupting the phone call to talk to people who were walking up to the front desk. She did apologize, saying she was the only one on the front desk. A fine hotel like the Beacon Grand is so understaffed that no one is available to answer the phone and/or handle incoming guests?? Considering what's being charged, I would hope you would be able to hire enough competent people to keep up. Also, for an upgraded room, the view was pretty bad - rooftops and parking lots. Thanks for a mostly lovely stay. We did, for the most part, really enjoy the hotel.
